Our Story

The farm track leading to the farmhouse where I lived as a child and where my mother still resides.

I am a country girl originally from Mundubbera, Queensland. I spent my childhood on the family farm where my parents raised cattle and grew rockmelons. It was a happy, carefree, simple life where days were spent outdoors with my four siblings, either playing backyard cricket or tennis on the ant-bed court that Dad built. I spent many hours over the Christmas holidays in the rockmelon patch with Dad and my brothers or in the packing shed dusting and sorting the melons ready for Mum to pack for the Brisbane and Sydney produce markets.

I regularly return to the farm to visit my mother. I have so many wonderful memories of my time growing up. Each time I return to the farm, I find myself reminiscing and yearning for this slower paced life, fresh country air and starry nights.

My love of family, country life and simple living have been my inspiration for my Evelyn and Owl homewares store. Evelyn is my mother’s name and O.W.L. are my father’s initials..... so Evelyn and Owl it is. This name is a tribute to my parents for the wonderful up-bringing that they gave my four siblings and me on the land and their unconditional love which has never wavered.

My home here in Brisbane, is my sanctuary and reflects my country heritage. It is a collection of vintage, rustic and modern pieces, family treasures and country decor which all speak to the very core of my being. My home is a work in progress. I love doing cosmetic renovations, refreshing vintage furniture and making decor from reclaimed items. With each completed DIY project, another cosy farmhouse touch is added to my home. I feel relaxed and at peace in my home and it brings me joy each and every day.

All of the homewares in my store are ones that I would proudly have in my own home. My desire is that these homewares will help you create a home that warms your heart and brings you joy....... a home that is your sanctuary, where beautiful memories are made.
